At the time of his arrest in 1969 Manson had already spent half of his life incarcerated in one institution or another. His criminal career started when he was still a single-digit age. He even spent some time at the famous BoysTown, but he kept running away and all told spent just days at the Colorado reform school. Unfortunately, he never seemed to learn from his mistakes and by the time he entered his teens he was virtually 'non reformable'.

Most of Manson's early life was a precusor to what he would one day become. Abused and abandoned many times over, Manson began working on a 'rap sheet' at the tender age of 8. In more than out, of juvenile facilities where he repeatedly ran away, assaulted other boys, and when finally released, went back to stealing cars, ect., the same behaviors that got him locked up so many times before. As seen in killers such as Manson, he had no reguard for the law or other humans. No life was important to him except his own.

Information on Charles Manson's childhood?

I have yet to find a better source of information on Charles Manson than Vincent Bugliosi's 'Helter Skelter'. This book is a great place to start when doing any research on Manson's life and what makes this man tick. Bugliosi explains the evil that is Manson and helps the reader understand what is incomprehesible. Manson's early life was no doubt a nightmare. Born to a teenaged prostitute who actually traded him for booze and cigarettes, and passed from one relative to another it is no small wonder he became the killer that he is. At the very least he is an interesting subject if you have the stomach for it.

Can you write to Charles Manson?

MANSON'S ADDRESS: Charles Manson, B-33920 4A 3R 14L P. O. Box 3476 Corcoran, CA 93212 Charlie gets a ton of mail and can only answer a small fraction of it so don't feel bad if you don't get a letter in response to what you write. Send some good energy out to Charlie! The people who run the prisons are jealous of the positive support which Manson gets from his friends and will do anything to discourage it, and in doing so, try to make Manson feel like he has no friends. When you write to Manson.... DO: Be yourself; don't say things because you think it's what Manson wants to hear. If you can, send him postage paid envelopes (printed, not holographic). Include your return address within the letter itself. DON'T: Do not send books, magazines, stamps, cash, posters, polaroid photos. Also, don't send clothing, cassette tapes, CDs, pens or pencils. If in doubt, don't send it - he probably won't get it. This "do's & don't" list is NOT complete or definitive. The prison is playing all sorts of games with Manson's mail. Is it illegal to make and sell replicas of Matt Bellemy's Manson guitars?

I would be very careful about doing anything like this. You should check first to see if he holds any patents or special licenses for anything related to his guitar designs. If so, there are processes to follow to be able to copy someone else's work.
