Clark Gable, then known as Billy, moved to Oregon to work as a logger in Bend and then lived in Portland and Astoria as a young man between 1920 and 1923. While in Portland, he lived in a rooming house off of Burnside and SW 13th avenue and worked at The Oregonian in the advertising department and later at Meier and Frank selling ties. In Astoria he acted at a little theater coompany (where there is a plaque commemorating his stay in the downtown) and later in Portland with the Red Lantern Players where he met the acting teacher Josephine Dillon 12-17 years his senior, whom he later married. Dillon groomed Gable, getting his teeth fixed and dressing him in elegant clothes, while working on his acting technique. They moved to Hollywood where he eventually would get his big break. For many years after becoming a big star, Gable visited Portland where he had made some very good friends.

Yes she did, several times. The first time was when John Clark was a baby and Judy had heard rumers that Clark Gable was her father, but she had not confronted her mother about it. Judy went to church with Loretta and after the service Kay Gable came up to her and they introduced their children to each other. In 1986 there was a screening of Gone With the Wind and Judy was invited to it by her friend Daniel Mayer Selznick ( Grandson of Louis B. Mayer and the son of David O. Selznick who produced GWTW.) Daniel went to talk to John Clark Gable for a few mins. and then asked Judy if she wanted to talk with him, which she did. Daniel went over to John Clark Gable and introduced Judy by telling him that she was the daughter of Loretta Young and that her mother had made several movies with his father. At that time John Clark Gable did not have a clue that he was talking to his half-sister. In her book Uncommon Knowledge Judy said that it was very weird talking to her half-brother knowing that they were related, but not being able to tell him.
Fox Theater, 1991. Can't remember the opening act, but she was awesome and Lenny rocked.
No the quote, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" is from the movie "Gone with the wind" and was spoken by Rhett Butler (portrayed by Clark Gable)
Mr. Lauridsen's bio says he grew up in Portland, Oregon I believe he actually grew up in Beaverton, Oregon and attended elementary school and high school there. Is this true? I don't think anybody but the two of them will ever know for sure, but Im thinking that they never did. From various things that Judy said John did not believe that Judy was his sister so they probably did not.
