Yes, Cleopatra did mean to die. She committed suicide, by taking a poisonous snake and letting it bite her on the arm. Cleopatra did this to avoid being paraded through the streets by Augustus and Octavian. They were planning to take Cleopatra back to Rome and show her off as a prize. Then they were probably going to kill her in public. Cleopatra was a very dedicated queen, so she did not want to be paraded through the streets. She didn't want to be humiliated, so she just killed herself. Exactly how we don't know. But most people think the snake bit her.
