No, actually it was quite the opposite situation. The available evidence indicates that Columbus had very high regard for Ferdinand and Isabella, but unfortunately the feeling was not mutual.

In fact it seems that apart from the very brief period just after Columbus was successful on the first voyage the King at best only tolerated Columbus and it could even be true that at times he hated Columbus!

Before the success of the first voyage, Ferdinand was not entirely convinced in the sanity of the claims made by Columbus with regard to himself. Then there was a quite happy few months when Columbus was in favor with the royals until he set out on the second voyage.

Then the lengthy delays during which Columbus failed to ship the promised gold to Spain led the royals to lose faith in him, at least partially, and eventually so many people were speaking against Columbus and complaining about his governance of Hispaniola that Ferdinand and Isabella ordered that he be arrested and brought back to Spain.

Columbus arrived in chains and was thrown into prison. Though he was soon released, the grief and stress over his treatment had taken their toll on his physical and mental health and he rapidly deteriorated during the next few years, as did his regard for the Spanish crown.

Who gave Columbus the money to explore?

Columbus asked King Henry of Portugal for ships and sailors to discover the way to China and Japan. King Henry said no. Then Columbus went to Spain and asked Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. There was a war in Spain. "Wait until the war is over," Queen Isabella said. Columbus had to wait many years. The war was over, at last, in 1492. Then Queen Isabella said yes. The city of Palos gave Columbus three ships: the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Queen Isabella gave Columbus money and ninety sailors. The three little ships sailed from Palos on August 3. First they stopped at the Canary Islands for more food and water. They left the Canaries on September 6.
