His one presidential campaign in 1924 was rather subdued (he won despite, or possibly because of, this), partly because Coolidge was naturally taciturn and partly because he was, at the time, grieving for his son, who had died of sepsis shortly after he was nominated.
He also had run successfully for several previous political offices, including Governor of Massachusetts and Vice-President of the United States.
