the egyptians considered a cat to be an animal that had a purpose from god, meaning that it was a highly regarded animal as it had been brought down from god. Thst is the reason why many egyptians were killed as a punishment if they ever tried to kill a cat or torture it in any form. Also, just some additional information. Once cats passed away, they are held a burial just like humans as they were considered very precious.

The answer is yes, the Egyptians did in fact worship cats. Mostly because the Egyptians believed cats to be a gate way to the spirit world or a soul stealer, so to appease the cats the Egyptians pampered them and worshiped them like gods. These cats were the same size as modern day house cats.
