The men were fighting for the freedom of the Holy Land to Europe and in Iraq we are fighting for the freedom of the Iraqis
Most of the fighting from world war 1 happened in Europe in the countries of Belgium and France. The germans did most of the fighting and invasions.

The right to have freedom when travelling from country to country and the euro which made it easier to import and export goods from country to country.
In the UK and continental Europe they got paid in the currency of the country they were stationed in.
2. In Europe, the U.S. was fighting more than one country and had more Allies that they could rely on.
They were leaving Europe because of religoius opression, so freedom of religion woulb be important to them. If they didnt have freedom of religion they would be just like Britian, the country they were leaving.

WW I was fought in Europe, and it was enormously destructive. Homes, factories, and other structures and infrastructure were massively damaged or destroyed. In the US, there was no fighting. American soldiers had to travel to Europe to participate in the fighting. So the US was physically intact after the war (despite casualties, of course) and therefore was better able to develop its economy, while Europe was rebuilding.
