The Pacific Theater and the European Theater.
There were two major theaters in the Second Great War: the European theater, and the Pacific Theater. V-E Day was the day that the Germans surrendered to the Allied Forces and major action in the European theater ceased. The Nazis were defeated.
Normandy is in France, Europe. Site of the D Day landings June 6th 1944.
D-Day is thought to mean an amphibious landing (which is not the case). There were many amphibious landings in the Pacific Theater as each island had to be taken. Sometimes there were multiple landings for one island or chain of islands. This is why the Marines played was mainly used in the Pacific and not in the European theaters.
There was the European Theater, where we ended things with Germany, Italy, and Russia. We had VE day there. The Pacific Theater was where we put Japan back into its place, killing almost 1 million Japanese, and celebrating VJ day.
The D-Day invasion was on June 6, 1944 and the European theater ended on May 8, 1945 with Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender. But the Pacific theater did not end until August 15, 1945.
The old dreadnaught Texas was there. Any of the old US Navy battleships were sent to the Atlantic, the new ones had to fight in the Pacific. The old US Battleships were simply "targets" in the Pacific.
v day (victory day) was celobrateed on 8th May, 1945.There were two different Victory Days from WWII, one for each of the two major theaters:V-E Day celebrates Victory in the European Theater (defeat of Nazi Germany) on May 8, 1945.V-J Day celebrates Victory in the Pacific Theater (defeat of the Japanese Empire) on August 15, 1945
The answer is generally reliant upon the theater , for example on the Eastern Front the defeat of German forces at the Battle of Stalingrad which many historians regard as the turning point in the Second World War , the Battle of Midway in the Pacific Theater , El Alamein in the Middle East or D-Day in the European Theater where penultimately a NAZI occupied Europe was liberated .
