Gandhi grew up in a society that was strictly controlled by the British Empire. Their tactics grieved him greatly, and he made it his mission in life to change things for his countrymen.
gandhi opposed the british law.
His effort gained India's Independence from the British empire without inciting any one to use violence
nonviolent, no matter what. this may sound normal in most countries today, like the US and Europe, but in Gandhi's time nonviolence in India (which was a part of the British empire) was rater unusual. The British rulers reacted very aggressive against Gandhi's ideas but he still didn't use any kind of violence.
Gandhi's opposition was certainly one factor, but the entire world moved toward less imperialism after WWI, and even more so after WWII. He was a major force within a general trend.
