Yes, in the Second World War, the Fatherland (Germany/Deutschland) and the Motherland (Russia/Pocc|backwards N and backwards R|) were former allies. When Adolf Hitler (April 20th, 1889 - April 30th, 1945) was Fuhrer (leader) of Nazi Germany, (from August 2nd, 1934 - April 30th, 1945) he was in favor of being friends with the Russians. Shortly after the Treaty of Versailles (signed on June 28, 1919: Created as a result of Germany losing World War 1, it was designed to symbolize that Germany was to be fully blamed for causing the First World War, and for them to have to disarm, and pay reparations to the countries of the leaders of the Allied forces of the Great War) was broken by the Fuhrer, Hitler demanded his troops to invade Russia on June 22, 1941 after trampling through several other countries in Europe. He did this because not only did he want Germany to be the supreme leader of the World, (and for the world to be lead by him and the German Aryans), but he ordered the Nazi's to invade because Russia was one of the major enemies to them in the first World War and they helped make the Treaty of Versailles. Nazi Germany devised operation Barbarossa to ready the Fatherland for the counterattack of the Soviet Union, which did not go as according to plan. Instead, Mother Russia slowly crushed the German War Machine from the East side with many other countries to Germany's East, while other Allied forces did the same on Deutschland's North, South, and West sides. As a result, Germany lost WW2.

Germany in the triple alliance with Austria Hungary against Britain, Russia and France
When Austria- Hungary took lands in the Balkans and they kept Russia out with the help of Germany Russia hated their alliance.
A German-Austrian alliance was formed to protect Germany against Russia before the start of WWI.
The Triple Alliance was a military alliance formed in 1882 between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. It was primarily aimed at countering the threat posed by France and Russia in Europe. The alliance played a role in World War I as Germany and Austria-Hungary were central powers fighting against the Triple Entente (France, Britain, and Russia).
