I believe it was Baghdad. :)
The original House of Wisdom was set up in Baghdad in the 9th century CE during the rules of three notable Abbasid caliphs - Al-Mansur, Harun al-Rashid and Al-Ma'mun. A later 'House of Wisdom' was established in Cairo in 1004 by a Fatimid caliph.

The House of Wisdom was a multi-faceted institute created Baghdad, Iraq founded by Harun al-Rashid. It was a major center of intellectualism at the height of the Islamic Golden Age in the 9th to 13th centuries, acting as a school, a place of translation and a library that housed one of the largest holds of books in the world. It was unfortunately destroyed during the Mongol Siege of Baghdad in 1258.
Properly spelled Harun Ar Rashid (because in Arabic if Al is followed by r, the l is pronounced as an r), Harun was the fifth Abbasid Caliph. He ruled from Baghdad and was a supporter of the arts, intellectual studies and religious/philosophical thought.
Harun Al-Rashid saw the advancement of science and culture. He is responsible for the library at Bayt al-Hikma. Trade around Baghdad began to grow and flourish under his reign.
