yes he did because Hitler sent men to Russia when it was absolutley cold with just about basic clothes and no sensible clothing for the weather, which then lead to mass deaths on the German side because of the cold. This then lead to less men on Hitlers side, which then the Russians took control and advanced.

Was this attack before they joined forces with the brits to fight Germany?

At the beginning of World War II, the Russian dictator, Joseph Stalin, had a non-aggression pact with Adolf Hitler and Nazis Germany. While Adolf Hitler attacked northwards and south into France and Africa, etc. Joseph Stalin attacked southwards in order to divide and conquer and share out conquered bordering countries between them. But, when Adolf Hitler failed to invade and conquer Great Britain, he turned towards Russia and began Operation Barbarossa, the code name for the invasion of Russia, 22 Jun 1941 – 5 Dec 1941.Like Napoleon Bonaparte's invasion of Russia, 24 Jun 1812 – 14 Dec 1812, that ended in a disastrous retreat that cost many lives, so too did Hitler's Russian invasion attempt. Adolf Hitler should have learned from history, and realise that the biggest hurdle in invading the vastness of Russia, was the Russian winter and the Russian determination to throw everything at the Germans no matter what was the cost in Russian lives.

Were Joseph Stalin and Hitler friends?

> Hitler and Stalin did agree to be allies, however Hitler broke the pact by > invading russia when Stalin was completely unaware to this. When this > happened Stalin sulked away in his room for 3 or 4 days while the German > soldiers invaded Russia. When they were still allies though, they agreed > to split up Poland half for Hitler and half for Stalin. Mostly true. > They hated each other. Fascism and communism are polar opposites, so > Hitler and Stalin viewed each other's method of rule as the wrong way. They > did have a sort of respect for each other, hence the short-lived > Non-Aggression Pact between the two countries. This is inaccurate and based on false assumptions. Stalin may have come to hate or respect Hitler because of the events described above. But they had no sense of being polar opposites due to ideology, these two had just signed a non aggression pact, making them allies just as war was brewing, and after both had spent many years building large militaries.

Why did Stalin sign a Nazi Soviet Pact with Hitler instead of Chamberlain?

basically Germany were offering Stalin the best offer in that: Russia would gain half of Poland when it was invaded Russia would gain a sphere of influence from the countries surrounding Poland which is key for ideological reasons. The spread of revolution. It meant Russia would not be fighting Germany on two fronts It would strike fear into capitalists countries it would bind time of Russia to recover from the purges and build economically and militarily to be ready to fight Germany because war with Germany was inevitable
