If you read the absolute anime and the wikipedia of Inuyasha, it says that Inuyasha and Sesshomaru are only half brothers, they have the same father but different mothers. Inuyasha being a half demon means that he had a full demon youkai for a dad, and a human for a mom. Sesshomaru who is the older half brother had a full demon youkai for a father and a mother. But their dad left Sesshomaru's mom because he fell in love with Inuyasha's mom, who was a human.
