I'm going to say NO. The closest would be a .25 Stevens. Most were available in .22 and .30 or .32. The Hunter's Pet Pocket Rifle (really a long-barrelled pistol with a detachable shoulder stock) was chambered for almost everything from .22 short to 44-40 centerfire, but Cartridges of the World doesn't list any thing in 27 caliber that would have been appropriate or available at that time.
a tip-up action single shot pistol
The value of a J Stevens 22 cal nickel finish tip-up pistol is between $200 and $500 depending on its condition. These guns are easy to conceal but provide little firepower.
The exact value of a 32 Rimfire Stevens Tip Up Single Shot pistol made of brass with a steel barrel is actually dependent upon a number of factors. Some of those factors would be, the age and condition of the pistol.
Brownells gunsmith and Down East guns are two places to find parts for the pistol. You can also find parts at auction shops and local gun stores.
Need more information. Caliber? Tip-up? Swing-out cylinder? Barrel markings and patent dates? sales@countrygunsmith.net
You posted this under the Iver Johnson topic and that company made a lot of revolvers in Fitchburg, which isn't far from Chicopee Falls. The only arms maker I find in Chicopee is Stevens, but I have no records of a Stevens revolver. Are you sure it is not a tip-up pistol?
i own one. its quick efficient and very effective. just use full metals!!! if you use hollow points, they will hang up in the process of ejection or jamb. Just a tip.
Typically, the hammer strikes the firing pin which may fire a round, if there is a fresh round in the chamber. In older pistols, the hammer can hit the primer directly (the tip of the hammer has the firing pin on the end).
That is Chicopee Falls, MASS, U. S. A.
It sounds like you may have a Stevens Tip up pistol, but there is not enough information to give you a definite answer- and value is also driven by condition. You will need to visit a gun shop or gun show in your area for a better answer. Sorry-
webdept@gunpartscorp.com has many parts and breakdown books for many Stevens rifles and shotguns.
I would say No, but if anyone can tell you for sure, it would be John Callahan, a private Stevens historian. You can find contact information at www.savagearms.com. I can tell you that it is NOT a ladies model if it is not either .22 or .25 caliber or if it has a barrel length other than 24 or 26 inches.
