The ark was very large. You have to remember he had two of every animal (except a certain few) but not each breed so one breed of dog, one breed of cat and so forth. Obviously he didn't bring aquatic animals because that would have been unneccessary so that frees up a lot of space. If you want to learn more I believe they have a Noah's Ark exhibit with a lifesize ark to give you an idea of how large it really was.

There were no races. In fact, race is not a true concept. People are people and certain people were just from certain clans in different areas and their looks changed accordingly.

Additional thoughts:

No, it was not necessary. According to The Bible, God created just one man and one woman from whom ALL humans descended(Genesis 3:20; Acts 17:26;Genesis 1:28), so the ability to produce humans with differences in color, shape & size were contained in the eight people who boarded Noah's ark(Genesis 7:1-7/1 Peter 3:20) and became the ancestors of everyone living on earth today(Genesis 9:1/Genesis 7:23). The HUMAN race.(1 Samuel 16:7/Acts 10:34+35)

We also know that all of humanity was descended from Noah and his sons, so he could not have brought other humans on board the ark aside from the eight of them. (Noah, 3 sons, 4 wives total).
