Joseph Stalin did not serve in the military. He was a guerrilla who helped aid a revolution to become dictator of the Soviet Union.
In my opinion it varies for each individual just like life. There are good times and situations and there are bad times and situations, how you react to them, and what you take from them is up to you.A slightly different opinion:Every experience in life leaves its mark or stamp on you. The military is just a little different. The military experience, beginning in Basic Training, is much more intense than any other experience of life. depending on your duty station after basic, the mark that is made may be greater or less. the fact is however that once you are in the military, the military will never quite be out of you.
Mitt Romney does not have any military experience but he does have religious experience. He was a missionary, bishop, and regional leader for his church. He did have a draft card in 1969 but was never called up to join the service.
If you have retired from the military honorably then it is reasonable to say that you had enjoyed your time in the military but never saw it as your final career option, just a means of getting experience that you could never get in any other walk of life.
No experience is required, but the branches of the military do require a high school diploma. He will also make sure he does not have any kind of criminal record.
