There is no Big block or small block in Pontiacs. They were the same size. "67 did have the 400 and 400 HO available for the Firebird.
There is no "small block" , "big block" with Pontiac engines. The physical size is the same from 326ci to the 455.
Pontiac uses same block no small or big, Chevy describes their engines small or big
The firing order for the Pontiac 400 engine is that the small block powers the big block.
Pontiacs didnt make big blocks.
First its not called a big block, Pontiac never made a small block. it is just called a Pontiac 350. as far as tourque i t ranges from 150 to 400 depending on the year and trim
Depends on which Pontiac engine you are referring to. Any GM engine 400 cubic inches and under are considered a small block with two exceptions. The 396 is a big block and there were certain 400's that are big blocks. Two versions of the 400 were built.WRONG. All Pontiacs from 326-455 are the same size block externally. The only major difference is that the 326, 350, 389, and 400 have a 3" main bearing size. The 421, 428, and 455 are 3.25" mains. Now...if you are talking about comparing a Pontiac block to say a Chevy block....the Pontiac is larger than a small block and slightly smaller than a big block.
Pontiacs did not have "big" or "small" blocks. Your '68 could have come with a 350 or a 400 cubic inch motor.
GM big blocks start with the 400. There are two 400s, a small block & a big block. The 350 is a small block, not a big block. Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
15.5 gallons
For complete engines, the weight of the average (stock) 400 Pontiac at about 650 lbs. is roughly between the average (stock) Chevy small block at about 575 lbs. and the average (stock) Chevy big block at about 680-685 lbs..
Depends on the year, and what model it was installed in and if it is a big block 400 or small block 400. Need more information to provide an answer. The 1970-1972 400's are the most desirable motors to find. The early ones produced up to 265 HP stock. Chevrolet did not make a big block 400, i believe the other answer is referring to the Pontiac 400, as it is considered a big block. These engines can be torque monsters with the right setup. I have a 1970 motor with fresh rebuild and a single plane edelbrock torker 2 manifold. I have not dyno'd this engine, but it is great on the street and fries the tires in my 70 Pontiac lemans.
The 400 Chevy is a small block engine. The 400 BIG BLOCK Chevy does not exist! 402 big block Chevy does. it seems in the early 70s Chevy put 402s in their pick ups and they had 400 badges. this opened the can of worms known as the non-existant big block 400.
