There has never been a Masonic fraternity in the Catholic Church, much less one with the pope as grand master. Catholics are forbidden by the Church, under pain of automatic excommunication, from joining the Masons. Pope Benedict XVI, while he was still a cardinal, issued a document clarifying this position of the Church and stating that there has been no change in this policy.
Pope Benedict XVI chose the name Benedict in honor both of St. Benedict, who founded Western Monasticism in the sixth century, and is the patron of Europe. His order did an incalculable job in civilizing and converting Europe. He also chose it in honor of Pope Benedict XV, who was Pope during the First World War and died in 1922. His papacy began a lot of things which were later accomplished by Popes Pius XI and Pius XII.In his own words:"Filled with sentiments of awe and thanksgiving, I wish to speak of why I chose the name Benedict. Firstly, I remember Pope Benedict XV, that courageous prophet of peace, who guided the Church through turbulent times of war. In his footsteps I place my ministry in the service of reconciliation and harmony between peoples. Additionally, I recall Saint Benedict of Nursia, co-patron of Europe, whose life evokes the Christian roots of Europe. I ask him to help us all to hold firm to the centrality of Christ in our Christian life: May Christ always take first place in our thoughts and actions!"In honor of Pope Benedict XV (Pope during World War I who always sought peace among nations) and also in honor of Saint Benedict, patron of Europe and the founder of Benedictine Monks, Cardinal Ratzinger chose the name Benedict. So he is Pope Benedict XVI.
Yes, he writes his own books.
The current Pope is Francis (the first), born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on 17 December 1936. He is is the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church, elected on 13 March 2013 after Pope Benedit XVI announced his resignation on 11 February 2013, which resignation took effect on 28 February 2013. Though of Italian descent, Frances was born in Buenos Aires (in Argentina). He was ordained to the priesthood in 1969, and served as Argentina's Provincial superior of the Society of Jesus from 1973 to 1979; so he was already, then, on a fast track to high rank in the Roman Catholic hierarchy in Argentina. He became the country's Arch Bishop in 1998; then its Cardinal in 2001. He is the first Latin-American Pope. Benedict XVI was the first Pope to resign since Pope Gregory XII in 1415, and the first to do so on his own initiative since Pope Celestine V in 1294. He now holds the title "Pope Emeritus," and lives in retirement in the newly renovated Mater Ecclesiae monastery at the Vatican.

...And who do you think has the authority to sack a pope?.AnswerNobody "sacked" the pope. The only possible reason that Church could possibly have for trying to get rid of a pope would be outright heresy, and I'm not even sure that is possible as Our Blessed Lord himself guaranteed to Peter and his successors that they would be strengthened in the faith. (See St. Matthew 16:17-19) The Holy Father is the Vicar of Christ on earth, he is the "office of last resort", nobody has authority over him, except Our Blessed Lord, Himself. Pope Benedict XVI resigned from office, ostensibly for the reasons he gave the public: his age and failing health. If he had other reasons, they are between himself and God.
