It depends upon what period of history you are referring to. In the early days there were very strong arguments and wars between the Catholics and Protestants. More recently the two divisions have emphasized their common ground and cooperated, although there are still some significant differences.

Answer from a Catholic convert (from protestant)Although not true in all cases, especially now when the ecumenical movement has produced a lot of dialogue between protestants and Catholics, many of us older people were raised in a protestant environment that was extremely disparaging of Catholic belief and religion. My grandmother was a, not very fervent, Catholic who lived to see all of her children leave the Church and raise her grandchildren outside of the Church. Despite being relatively close to my grandmother as a child, I was never inside a Catholic church, nor did anyone ever talk about Catholicism. It was thought of as something foreign and old country, and not very "American"! Individually, though, my family had many Catholic friends, or should I say, neighbors who happened to be Catholic. Still we did not go to their Church or participate in their strange rituals. I trust things are changing now, that is the view of one man who grew up in protestant American in the 1950's.

Do Catholics get along better with Mormons or protestants?

This really is something that is treated on an individual basis and not the relations between denominations as a whole. The Catholic Church certainly has a right to not approve of Mormons or Protestants, as both claim that the Catholic Church has gone astray. The Catholic Church generally has good relations with other denominations and individual Catholic groups work together with both Protestant and Mormon groups on a regular basis. Whether an individual Catholic prefers the company of Protestants or Mormons would be based on his/her individual personality, as they will have many common beliefs with people from both religions.
