Reuben Tice was the proprietor and principal Electrical Engineer at Tice Electric in Monterey, California. He was also an experimenter and inventor. He was working in his shop on a device to improve the appearance of Prunes by removing their wrinkles when it exploded, killing him instantly.

The Tice Electric shop was located at the northeast corner of Figueroa Street and Del Monte Blvd., near the foot of the Monterey Municipal wharf. The building is now occupied by a deli/liquor store named La Casa Bodega. Both the liquor store and Reuben's home in Carmel Valley are reputed to be haunted.

The story of Reuben's death was reported by the Monterey Peninsula Herald Newspaper.
