While I wouldn't say it is guaranteed, eating 20 prunes is a lot! They have about 11% of your daily fiber requirement so, 20 would be 220%. I used to eat one prune in the morning and one prune at night until I had diarrhea like twice a day. Cut the prunes out, cut out the runs! :)

I hope they are because I've been eating them for a while. I like the taste. I just crack open the shell with my teeth and eat away!

*** in addition to the well-written and informational response above (please wikipedia at least before answering):

As with many other members of the rose family, plum seeds contain cyanogenic glycosides, including amygdalin.[5] These substances are capable of decomposing into a sugar molecule and hydrogen cyanide gas. While plum seeds are not the most toxic within the rose family (that dubious honor going to the bitter almond), large doses of these chemicals from any source are hazardous to human health.

Are prunes bad for dogs?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Prunes can actually be dangerous to a dogs health.

Just like grapes, raisins, and plums; prunes contain a toxin that can damage the kidneys.

Prune juice however is not a cause for concern. Just don't give it to your dog in excess. A few drops of unweetened prune juice mixed with water is really healthy for your dog every once in a while, especially if it has bowel problems.

For a more effective solution to constipation in a dog. You should boil some rice and give it small vegetables. Dogs do not digest vegetables very easily, so make sure you chop them well.I don't think you should give it in a can either.
