Robert E. Lee disapproved of slavery and secession, the only reason he joined the South is because his home ,Virginia seceded along with the other Southern states. He disliked the South for seceding and slavery, but he could not betray his people. He didn't disliked the North, but he did not like how the U.S. government was handling the situation
