During the Second World War Bosnia was apart of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia attempted to remain neutral throughout the war, and was not involved in the beginning of it. Yugoslavia attempted to stay neutral by signing a military alliance with Germany and Italy, to avoid a threat of invasion. This didn't sit well with some military officers though, and they led an uprising and overthrew the government. The new government immediately established close ties with Britain and France, much to the anger of fascist Germany, and on April 6th, 1941 Germany and Italy invaded and took over the country.
