Zack was charming to Cissnei the first time they met in CC, but their relationship in the end amounted up to friendship between working colleagues. He starts going out with Aerith, however, and it is evident that Zack not only likes Aerith- he loves her. It's even stated in FF Ultimania that Zack admits that Aerith had become irreplacable to him.

aerith loves Zack fair. but when Zack died, she replaced him with cloud strife because of the common attitudes. but aerith really loves Zack more than cloud. :)) aerith gave up on cloud because he love someone else, someone from his childhood past..... ( P.S. cloud and aerith NEVER dated. )

Why does aerith like cloud?

She dated him for over a year, still wears the pink ribbon he bought her, still sells the flowers in the cart he made her, won't get the cart fixed by anyone other then Zack himself, wrote Zack 89 love letters over the course of four years, and wears pink because of a silly exchange between them. Aerith knew Cloud for a a couple of weeks. She never got to know the real Cloud and is now reunited with her true love, Zack, in the lifestream.

The book is a great resource as all stories were written by Kazushige Nojima, Square-Enix's official screenplay writer for several of the Final Fantasy Games including VII…except "Maiden Who Travels the Planet" which was written by a non-SE-staff member namely Benny Matsuyama. "Maiden who travels the planet" is further more deliberately excluded on official Square-Enix listings, where even the non-canon Last Order is included. In other words, they do not approve it as canon and it seems they do not even want to be associated with it anymore. It appears it was more for entertainment purposes and to appease fans of the Cloud x Aerith couple. When applying common logic it does not make sense to have a largely unsupervised short story (as admitted by Matsuyama himself on his blog) with quite some continuity errors and even rather OOC writing (obviously conflicting Nojima's on both accounts) take precedence over the game Crisis Core which is obviously of much heavier caliber in the argument.In Crisis Core it is stated quite obviously Aerith truly was attracted to, and later loved Zack.- She comments on how beautiful his eyes are, and blushes like a schoolgirl when he gets close to her to 'have her let a look'- Zack buys her a pink ribbon. She promises she'll wear it for the rest of her life, and she has.- She says she has 23 wishes, but she can all sum them up into 1: To be with Zack more often.- When Zack goes missing she writes him 89 letters over a period of 4 years.- She also starts wearing pink, a silly request Zack made. She wore pink years after Zack's disappearance hoping he would find his way back to her, and has always worn it since.It is safe to say it is proven that Aerith loved Zack, and that Nojima wanted us to know about it.Though I have no doubt Aerith loved Cloud it is another matter altogether if she ever loved him romantically................................................................................................................................Yes. She does admit to Zack and her relationship later in Final Fantasy 7 game, when the party go to Gongaga and Aerit find out that Zack was from Gongaga. From then Aerith tells Cloud the WAS her first love. But later when she dies and meets Zack again, he perpressures Aerith in choosing who she preferse, making Aerith choose Zack as it would affect her sex life for along time if she chose Cloud. But to me i think it's Cloud and Aerith all the way. As Cloud eventfully spend more time with her.

No. Zack likes to flirt, but he was never in love with Tifa. The only girl he ever loved was Aerith. It's stated by SE that Aerith became irreplacable to him, and she's the only girl he ever wrote home about. At the end of CC, he fights desperately to return to her, but...for a certain reason, is unable to. Play CC for more details(even though it's obvious what I'm talking about if you've played the original FFVII).
How would you feel if Final Fantasy VII was remade and Aerith's death is more violent?
Final Fantasy would feel like a new game if square enix would release a hd version like they are doing for final fantasy X. Aerith could then suffer a decapitation instead of a sword to the heart.

To sum it up, it only really matters what you perceive but I think Cloud loved her as a mother and nothing else. By the way, the Maiden Who Travelled the Planet short-story is fan-made. Aerith was flirty, yes but if you played the game in favour with Tifa (to get the Golden Saucer date with her) then you will know that Cloud and Tifa's relationship is far more deep and complex than that of Aerith's.
Does Aerith love cloud?
Yes. She does. She falls for him in Final Fantasy Seven based on his similarities to Zack, and even after she intellectually knows the two are different, emotionally, she still loves Zack, though her love does transform post mortem from being a romantic style love- as she thinks of Cloud in the first chapter of Case of Lifestream- to a more maternal one- as seen by her behaviour in the movie Advent Children Complete, and in creator commentaries as her role in the film.This doesn't mean she doesn't love anyone else, but whether she does or not is beyond the bounds of this question.
