yes it did
it was not clear weather or not it should be a free state or a slave state
It would have made an imbalance in congress and that would make more slave states than free states, thus the pro slavery states would have more power in congress
It was getting harder to create new slave-states, so the Compromise had to include a gesture of appeasement to the South. This was the Fugitive Slave Act, which infuriated the North, and generally raised the tensions.
California's application for statehood caused an uproar because it was applying as a non-slave state. The slave states and non-slave states avoided conflict by always having an equal amount of slave and non-slave states, however, California would upset this balance. This gave the South an uneasy feeling.
California became a free state in 1850, ending the balance of free states and slave states. However, the slave states got a tougher fugitive slave law as a result of California's admission to the Union as a free state.
It would increase the power of the southern states in the senate.
admitting equal number of free and slave states
It upset the balance of slave & free states,
It upset the balance of slave and free states
Yes they did. Abraham Lincoln banned slavery from slave states that included California.
well California was a part of mexico originally, around the time we were trying to become a state, the United states had an even number of slave/no slave states California wanted to enter in as a free(no slave) state. his caused an issue because it would obviously make the free side bigger and the slave states thought it would bring an end to slave states. Despite this after a lot of "debates" California was voted in, and because we entered as a free state we basically started the civil war, there were other factors but we were a big art in it.
Some in the United States. California, Oregon, and Nevada were.
