No! corn or maize came from south america and Egypt is in Africa. Popcorn was developed in Guatamala c.2700B.C. Europeans were first introduced to popcorn in the 17th century when they began to colonise the Americas. It became popular during the great depression of the 1930's as an inexpensive source of food. The increase in the consumption of popcorn saved mainly middle-western farmers from bankruptcy. Most of the maize variety used to make popcorn is farmed in Nebraska.
