Animals played a much greater contribution to agriculture than many people today can ever fathom. It can be thought that animals were one of the reasons that agriculture even began, because they, for example, helped the increase in efficiency and effort in producing crops by providing labour where humans could not.

The domestication of animals helped contribute to the development of permanent settlements because some animals could help locate were there is food. The animals need food in order to survive and so do humans, so wherever the animals went to eat they saw that they could eat the similar things.

Is farming included in agriculture?

Definitely. Agriculture is the production, processing, marketing, and use of foods, fibers and byproducts from plant crops and animals. Agriculture was the key development that led to the rise of human civilization, with the husbandry of domesticated animals and plants (i.e. crops) creating food surpluses that enabled the development of more densely populated and stratified societies. Agriculture or farming is divided into two types. Arable (crops) and livestock.
