from LZ83!

I was a medic with the Air Force Aeromedical Evacuation & Mobile Aeromedical Staging Facility (MASF) that was with the SeaBees approximately 3 clicks to the east. We were next to the heavy art/arms storage area.

I've been struggling with "Desert Storm disease" for over 18 years now - much to the chagrin of the VA who doesn't believe us.

* * * BUT * * *

Today (18 Sep 09), I had an appointment for the usual "so what's the matter with you" debacle and, by accident, I was seen by a Doctor Who not only BELIEVES Gulf War Syndrome, but does his best to treat it and give us some relief! I've never felt hope like this since returning stateside in 1991.

There are new studies out that are really pointing toward exposure to the nerve agent Sarin. From the Army Times May 26, 1007 - http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2003723056_gulfwar26.html:

The debate over the issue goes back 16 years to when U.S. forces blew up the chemical-munitions dump in Khamisiyah, releasing a plume of sarin gas to which thousands of U.S. troops were exposed, something the Pentagon denied until 1997.

Al Khanjar was under this plume for 2 days: 10 Mar 91 and 11 Mar 91.

Report to the nearest VA Medical Facility for evaluation, to be added to the registry, and to get treatment if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Signs and symptoms involving skin (including skin rashes and unusual hair loss)
  • Headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Neurologic signs or symptoms (nervous system disorders which could manifest themselves in numbness in one's arm, for instance)
  • Neuropsychological signs or symptoms (including memory loss)
  • Signs or symptoms involving upper or lower respiratory system
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Gastrointestinal signs or symptoms (including recurrent diarrhea and constipation)
  • Cardiovascular signs or symptoms
  • Menstrual disorder

If you are having severe problems, you may be entitled to a disability rating and compensation. DO NOT TAKE "NO" FOR AN ANSWER! Keep fighting until you get through to a care provider that will assist you!

May God bless you and all the Marines and Navy personnel we were with!
