A good Catholic would/should answer that Catholicism is, in fact, the same organization that the Savior Jesus Christ initiated while upon the earth with Peter (Matthew 16:18). Obviously, not everybody accepts this. Those that don't either assert that "The Church" (meaning that organization that the Lord set up with Peter) lost it's Apostalic authority (the authority that Jesus gave Peter and the other Apostles [Luke 6:13-16]) with the deaths of the original Apostles or that this authority is not needed to run a religion. The Catholic would/should assert that this authority continued through Linus after Peter and so on through the Popes. It should be noted that a good Mormon (Latter-Day Saint) should/would assert that this authority was indeed lost, but restored by angelic visitation to Joseph Smith and then continued through latter-day prophets.
