The Old Testament, or Hebrew Scriptures, were written by the Hebrews, the divinely inspired Word of God.

The New Testament was written by Christians between 20 and 80 years after Jesus death. The Christians were part of the only church, the one church of Christ. There was again only ONE Christain religion who followed Jesus. In later years divisions among the Christians occurred, and the early Chistians came to be called Catholic. The writers technically then were Catholic, their roots being traced directly to the apostles.

.

Catholic AnswerThe primary author of Sacred Scripture is the Holy Spirit, all of those who wrote the books of the New Testament were Catholics, and it was the Catholic Church that actually compiled and discerned which books would make up The Bible at the end of the fourth century, and it is the Catholic Church which has guarded, and copied the Bible, keeping it intact for all these centuries. The New Testament is part of the preaching of the Church.
