The evening was uneventful; they jammed a little, and talked about songwriting and their careers up to that point. John Lennon told Elvis to his face "Before you there was nothing", and asked why Elvis had stopped making albums, besides his movie soundtracks.
The Beatles were saddened and disappointed to find out years later that Elvis had appealed to President Richard Nixon to ban the Beatles in the United States, on the grounds that their drug use would corrupt America's youth. (Ironically, Elvis was high on prescription medications, at the time he made the appeal.)
