Mahatma Gandhi was well known as a peaceful person because he pioneered the idea of peaceful resistance. He had many demonstrations that only involved sitting calmly in public places to demonstrate that revolutionary changes could be achieved through non violence. It demonstrated the peaceful resistor's moral superiority against the often violent ruling British class.
