None of the Confederate states actually switched back to the Union, as far as I know. However, Virginia was split into Virginia and West Virginia because of the war.
The former Confederacy had to deal with the Union Army stationed in the South, and carpetbaggers & scalawags who took government jobs for profit.
The Confederacy was unable to pay back debts owed to the Union as indemnity, because when the Southern states succeeded to form the Confederacy they formed their own currency, rather than use the national currency. After the Civil War ended their Confederate Currency was completely useless, valueless, and not accepted by the Union, and they had no real money to pay back their owed debts.
The major goal of the Confederacy was independence from the United States. The North, the US, had the main goal of ending the Southern rebellion and restoring the Confederate states back into the Union.
to bring the south back into the union
Abraham Lincoln wanted to bring the union and confederacy back together as one and the confedearate states rebelled and attacked fort sumter starting the civil war.
all the states had to go back to the union. not all at once, but they did go back. hope this helps:-)
The Constitution provided no guidance on secession or readmission of states.
Reconstruction
The Union army was fighting for the end of slavery and to unite the country again. The southern states were huge supporters of slavery, considering the fact that southerners had huge plantations which required many people to take care of the huge area, so slaves were often an option...After the southern states and northern states argued over slavery, most southern states seceded from the United States and created their own country, called the "Confederacy". Their first president was Jefferson Davis. So a civil war broke out, causing the northern states to fight the southern states. So basically the goal for the Union was to end slavery and unite the United States back together. So the Union Army was fighting for freedom...
The Union soldiers dressed in blue; the Confederacy dressed in gray. This is an over simplification of course.
