Guru Nanak was first Hindu but created Sikhism because in Hinduism, there was the caste system. The caste system orders people accoring frm their wealth. So in Sikhism, we belive all people are created equal.
The founder of Sikhism is Guru Nanak Dev Ji He was the first Sikh guru. He found Sikhism in the year 1469 ( 5 Centuries ago ) with the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Gobind Singh ji established Khalsa Panth on 13 April 1699 and instructed every Sikh to use the words Singh ( for men ) and Kaur (for Women) along with their name. Sikhs prior to that don't use the words "Singh and Kaur" with their name. It was founded by Guru Nanak Dev who became the first guru on 20 August 1507 Read more: When did Sikhism start When Guru Nanak Dev ji had eloped in water from Sultanpur Lodhi. a prophet called Varn Devta brought Guru Nanak before Akal Purkh (God) and when Guru Nanak asked Akal Purkh the reasons for all Devtas standing outside the door of Akal Purkh palace, then Akal Purkh told Guru Nanak that Devtas standing outside have changed the men and women by ammending their faces, cutting of hairs and beards.
A Hindu named Nanak started Sikhism, in the fifteenth century. It started in Punjab, in India. Guru Nanak started Sikhism as he believed that everybody was equal. Back in his day, people where either Hindu or Muslim. They also had a caste system, meaning that the poor could NEVER under any circumstances touch the rich or the more powerful. Nanak did not believe in that, and when he became in contact with God he said that God had told him to spread his word.
The first one, he was sleeping with his feet towards the Ka'ba, when he was found by Kazi Rukan-ud-din. He shouted, "How dare you God's place by turning your feet towards Him?!". Then he kicked Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak replied quietly, "I am tired. Turn my feet in any direction that God's place is not." So Kazi Rukan-ud-din took his feet and turned them in the opposite direction. The mosque moved in the direction of Guru Nanak's feet. Kari was struck with awe. He finally recognised the glory of Guru Nanak. The second one, he was visiting a friend called Hassan Abdal. He sat at the foot of a hill underneath a Peepul tree. At the top of the hill lived a saint called Vali Quandhari, next to a spring. Guru Nanak's companion, Mardana often used the spring to get water. As Guru Nanak's fame grew, the saint became jealous. He forbade Mardana to use water from the spring. Mardana told Guru Nanak about this. He replied, "O Mardana! Do not be afraid. God will send water down to us soon." As soon as he had said this the spring on the hill dried up. At the place where Guru Nanak stood, another sprang. This angered Vali Quandhari even more. He hurled a huge rock down to the place where Guru Nanak was sitting. He stopped the falling rock with his hand (the impression it left is still there now). Seeing this, the saint rushed down and begged forgiveness. Guru Nanak pardoned him. There is now a shrine saying 'Punja Sahib next to the spring.
Guru Nanak became guru because, he believed in one god and that Muslims and Hindus should not be separated and should be united instead. He went missing for 3 days at the age of 30 and was found that he was on the lake talking to god. God gave him the role in life to be a guru. His first words when he came out of the river were: 'god is neither Muslim or hindu' and that is how guru Nanak became guru.
The effect's that Guru Nanak had on Sikhism is Huge. He was the one who created the religion of Sikhism. He travelled allot with his friends and told stories to the villages and what you should do. He would not eat with the higher cast because he only ate food of honest, hard work (The wealthy banker story). So basically the affects are big. He change what people think and do. So that's the answer! ;)
Guru Nanak wasn't chosen to be a Guru he became a Guru by travelling around India and other countries. You see he was brought up as a Hindu but didnt believe in the whole religion. anyway when he was older he had married and had 2 sons, as well as this he worked in an office and learnt about many other different religions. When he was 30yrs old he had a bathe in the river and he disappeared. his family thought he were died, so were very sad. However 3 days later he returned and said ''GOD TOOK ME AND TOLD I SHOULD TEACH PEOPLE THE TRUTH'' so he travelled around many different countries teaching people what they believe is the truth. And it became known as Sikhism. so as the finder of Sikhism he just became arandom guru!!! hpe this helped!!! xxx
== == Sikhism originated in the State of Punjab, in India about four or five centuries ago. Its originator was Guru Nanak. Sikhs were primarily Hindus until then, but Sikhism has emerged into its own religion today, much like Buddhism or Jainism. Hari Swaminathan.
