No, the Spanish won the war due to superior technology (I.E guns).
The Spanish and Aztecs fought because the Spanish wanted the gold and natural resources. It was actually the Spanish who had started the battle. Plus the Aztecs fought because the Spanish killed Montezuma.
Spanish conquistadors commanded by Hernando Cortez arrived in the same year that the Aztecs believed their god Quetzalcoatl would return. At first the Aztecs believed that Cortez was Quetzalcoatl, but Quetzalcoatl was a bloodthirsty god who demanded human sacrifice, and the Spanish were disgusted by this practice. Cortez' army was small but much better equipped, and they found thousands of allies in subject tribes which the Aztecs had conquered and were using to feed Quetzalcoatl. The Aztec king, Montezuma, was killed by his own people when he tried to prevent war with the Spanish, and and the Aztecs were defeated eventually. The Spanish also brought missionaries to Mexico, and the religion of the Aztecs was quickly replaced by Roman Catholicism.
noche triste.i am a APUSH student, and literally just read this out of my textbook :"On the noche triste (sad night) of June 30, 1520, the Aztecs attacked, ..."
They never fought each other. Both their territories were conquered by the Spanish in the 16th century.
Gold, jewelry, and most of all...their religion. They also killed most of them off for not worshiping God.Eventually this started a war.
Hernan Cortes
Yes.
Spain.
The Aztecs thought that the Spanish were gods so they worshiped them and did whatever they could to please them, at first. But the Aztec ruler, Montezuma, had his doubts about them. Soon after they arrived, the Aztecs discovered that the Spanish were as mortal as their other enemies, and fought against them. They captured some Spaniards, and sacrificed or even ate them. The Spanish won out because of their superior armament, and because the diseases they brought with them soon killed many of the Aztecs.
no they didn't really fight in a war. When Cortes came on there land he betrayed them. He hid Montezuma. The people helped Montezuma and they made the Spanish leave.
the Aztecs forced the people they conquered to pay them tribute.
With the conquistadors wanting all land they came across for themselves.

I don't know for sure, but I think that the Aztecs welcomed the small Spanish force and the Spanish attacked them, meaning the Aztecs would have to go to war. I'm not 100% sure, though, so it would be best to make sure before using the info I just gave you.
