What does the Dalai Lama and Martin Luther King have in common?

In my opinion, they are similar because they are fighting or fought peacefully for freedom for people. Martin Luther King was fighting for equality, right to vote and education, etc while the Dalai Lama is fighting for freedom of religion, equality for the Tibetans in Tibet under the Chinese government.

Should the Tibetans own their own country or Chinese own their country?

Tibet takes alot of its culture from India and if it were to be owned by anyone the Tibeten people would prefure India. As well as Tibet has native muslim populations which are oppressed in china. The state religion of Tibet is budhism and it has been heavilly oppressed in china, including the banning of reincarnation which was aimed specifically at the Dalai Lama. Tibet strategically though is in between China and India and if Tibet was not owned by China then Tibet would most likely be heavily allied to India and it would allow India to put bases in Tibet. If India has bases in Tibet then India could easily rush China in case of a war. As of right now China can defend there side of the Himmilaya and they would be able to stop India in case of a war, but if India has bases in Tibet, then India could easily take Chinas undefended plains and desert. Tibet is also highly priced by china for its water. China grows rice wich is a water heavy crop. If China gave Tibet up then theyed need water pretty badly. So China owns Tibet because it is a main tool for there survival and Tibet is not free because it isnt really worth anyone elses time to free them except maybe for India but that would only be if there already going to war with India. Looking at the histories of these nations Tibet is far different from China and is the home of the Dalai Lama and China owning Tibet harms the budhist religion. So Tibet should be a independent nation morally because the people of Tibet mostly want it and it is best for them, but Most likely that wont happen in the foreceably future because China will not give up Tibet because it is far to valuable to them.

What does the Dalai Lama work for?

In today's politically charged life....it's difficult to say what a single person may have as his agenda...his plan of what he does and WHY he does things. Speaking directly from a Buddhist perspective...the Dalai Lama (Great Spiritual Friend)seeks to show others the way of release from the wheel of suffering...and he seeks to regain the autonomy of the country of Tibet so it's beauty, culture, and amazing history does not fade into obscurity. He has been steadfast in his work with China in making right the grave injustices heaped upon Tibet and it's marvelous people, and I for one, though I do not recognize him as any person of great importance in my actual practice, greatly admire him and his efforts, and continue my support for Tibet in any way I might be able to help.

What is china's Tibetan problem?

In 1950 the Chinese invaded Tibet claiming they were invited to liberate Tibet from Western Imperialism, and would leave when requested to do so. Now, over 58 years later, China still illegally occupies Tibet, in defiance of international law, UN resolutions and the wishes of the Tibetan people. The Dalai Lama, Tibet's head of state and religious leader, was 16 when the Chinese invaded his country. He tried to negotiate, but the Chinese refused. In 1959 a popular uprising of Tibetans was brutally suppressed with the deaths of at least 87,000 Tibetans. The Dalai Lama and 100,000 Tibetans fled to exile in India, which he has used as a base for forty years to pursue a non-violent path towards a solution. The world has wrung its collective hands for most of the past 58 years. Britain particularly has a special responsibility, having had diplomatic relations with Tibet since 1904. When Britain withdrew from India, it gave assurances to the Tibetan government that it would support Tibet's right to manage its own affairs. When the Chinese invaded, Britain ignored this promise, failing even to support Tibet at the United Nations following the 1959 uprising. Recognising this injustice, a group of sympathisers established the Tibet Society of the UK - the world's first group to support Tibet.

What is the current situation in Tibet?

Many people were cheated by one and did something irrational, that is the March 14 event all about. - Sorry, not exactly and what kind of answer is this?! It's so vague. It's March 10th, uprising day. The day where the Tibetans fought against the Chinese army stationed in Lhasa back when the 14th Dalai Lama was young.CommentIn modern world, everyone wants peace and security, violence can do nothing but break them all. Fortunately, It is believed that everything will be all right and Tibet will be reopened to tourism soon. Word of mouth may not reflect the truth, go and see with your own eyes.Again a vague answer.Tibet is full of natural resources. It is also in the middle of Asia. These two factors are why China wants to own Tibet. Tibet, historically has a small population compared to China.Tibet was sold to China by England behind Tibet's back. There were only two representatives from China living in Lhasa. Tibet won it's independence. In the late 40's, the Chinese government claimed Tibet because of England's agreements and the two reps that had previously lived in Tibet. The truth is, there were pillars marking the boundary of China and Tibet on Tibet's Eastern border for over 700 years. The CHinese army destroyed many of them.China marched into Tibet killing many people, seizing assets of the rich and plunging Lhasa into extreme famine. The Chinese government wanted to kill Dalai Lama and he fled to India where he now lives. The genocide didn't stop there. Since the 1950's Tibetans have been tortured and killed by the Chinese government. They have been persecuted for practicing their religion. They can't even put up a picture of Dalai Lama in their homes. Hundreds of thousands of Tibetans have fled to India for religious and physical freedom. There are numerous human rights reports available for anyone to read and understand the horrific accounts of the Tibetan victims.Tibetan is a different language from Chinese. Tibet has it's own unique culture and dress. It is nothing like Chinese culture and dress. China continues to assert it's dominance over Tibet. The truth is, now there are more Chinese in the capital city of Lhasa than there are Tibetans. Go there, live there and see for yourself. Then go to MCleod Ganj in Himachal Pradesh. Go to the Tibet House museum. Talk to my Amala/mother. She was 12 years old when the army marched into Chamdo, in Kham. She will tell you the hell she witnessed and lived through. Talk to my friends about the torture they endured and you will understand why every March 10th, Tibetans protest. The cool thing is, most Tibetans will say that they don't hate Chinese people. In fact, a lot of Chinese people and Taiwanese people support Tibetans and the Dalai Lama. What Tibetans don't like is the Chinese government.
