I believe that Hephaestus is the son of Zeus and Hera who was crippled so Hera threw him off Mount Olympus which probably did not help. It was Tantalus, not Hephaestus

Hephaestus was the Greek god of fire and volcanoes. He was a master craftsman, he made weapons for the gods. He used volcanoes to help him forge these weapons, hence volcanoes are named after his Roman name, Vulcan. His wife was Aphrodite (goddess of love). However beautiful his wife may have been, Hephaestus is said to be no sight for sore eyes. People say he's pretty ugly.
In one legend, I am not sure of it's origin, Hera threw Hephaestus off of Mount Olympus, because she was so shocked of how ugly he was.Another legend, from Homer's The Iliad suggests that Zues threw Hephaestus off of Mount Olympus when Hephaestus tried to help Hera, against Zeus's wishes.

This particular Catholic thinks that anyone who said "there is no point in prayer because it doesn't help" has no idea what they are talking about.
- Hephaestus' mother thought he was ugly. She threw him from the top of Mount Olympus. It took him two days until he reached the sea and started floating. This fall gave him a broken leg.- Ares, Hephaestus' brother, was seen having an affair with Aprhodite. Hephaestus' saw this and reported it to the other gods. He was very angry.- Hephaestus is usually seen with a sledge hammer, an axe, and even fire. His birth was unusual because Hera didn't have the help from a man, parthenogenic birth.Mount Etna in present day Sicilly is said to be the workshop of Hephaestus, it is said that when sparks come out from the volcano, or when it smokes Hephaestus is at work.
