Did the Spartans want Athens' land?

No. Sparta had all the land it wanted, having earlier conquered Messenia and reduced the population to serfdom. It had difficulty controlling the area it had, and expeditionary armies always took seven serfs per Spartan warrior, to reduce the risk of uprising in their absence.

Sparta wanted stability. It was always slow to enter hostilities. it veiwed the Athenian empire with suspicion, and was wary of the adventurousness and expansionism of the Athenians. However Sparta's allies were in conflict with Athens, and urged Sparta to intervene to resolve the issues. The final straw was when Athens decreed that Sparta's ally Megara could not trade within the Athenian empire this meant the ruin of Megara which was a trading city. When Athens refused to lift the embargo, war became inevitable.
