How did the Confederacy try to get around the Union blockade of Southern ports?

The Union blockade of major Southern ports was a method to cut off trade between the Confederacy and foreign countries. The South used torpedoes, fortifications around certain ports and privateers to circumvent Union warships blockading ports. It also had a small war fleet to attack Union ships.

Where was the british navel blockade of Germany?

The British blockade of Germany was unusual, a first-of-its-kind in the history of warfare. Traditionally, blockading ships remained at sea just outside enemy ports to attack any ship coming in or going out. In WW1 the Royal Navy, while frequently patrolling the North Sea that separated Great Britain from German ports, remained in port most of the time. The mere existence of the powerful British fleet and its proximity kept the German High Seas Fleet at home. Also, the Royal Navy had broken German codes and therefore knew when the German were coming out. The Royal Navy also heavily mined international waters to prevent shipping from reaching Germany

What was the impact of the German naval blockade in world war 1?

Germany did not have a large enough agriculural production to feed her population by itself nor enough supplies of raw materials to produce all the finished goods necessary to sustain a war effort. She had to import these things primarily by sea. The blockade prevented them from being imported. this would have almost ended the war had the Haber Process not been discovered, this process developed by leading German scientist Fritz Haber. turned nitrates into ammonia, which was what the explosives in the artillery shells was composed of. artillery was the key weapon of the first world war. The Germans also imported goods through holland. This could not be stopped as Holland was a neutral country.

What body of water contains all of the German ports?

None. The main German ports are on the rivers that flow into the North Sea (Hamburg on the River Elbe and Bremen on the River Weser). Emden and Cuxhaven are on the North Sea coast. The other German ports are on the Baltic Sea - Luebeck, Kiel, Rostock and Wismar. Germany also makes extensive use of its rivers and canals for tranasport and has some major inland ports. The most important of these is Duisburg, where the Ruhr joins the Rhine (about 15-20 miles of Duesseldorf).
