The birth of Jesus was written as prophecy in the Old Testament, including where. They may have been familiar with some of the Jewish beliefs. As part of their repertoire they were skilled in astronomy and followed the star.

No. When the wise men talked to Herod, it was Herod who told the wise men where Jesus was to be born. Then later the wise men were warned divinely in a dream not to return to Herod and tell him where the Christ Child was located.

It is said that the magi were guided by the Star of Bethlehem. This suggests that their information was astrological in nature. They looked for signs in the heavens.

Who told king herod where Jesus would be born?

the magi--------------These 'magi'(astrologers from the east) informed Herod of the arrival of this 'king', but the details as to where Messiah would be born came from 'the chief priests and the scribes'(Matthew 2:1-7/Micah 5:2)

Why did the magi not return to king herod?

The Magi did not return to King Herod because they were warned in a dream not to go back to him. They were told to go home by a different route to avoid King Herod, who had asked them to report back to him after finding the newborn king of the Jews. This was likely to protect the child Jesus from Herod's malicious intentions.

When did the wise man find Jesus?

Up to two years after Jesus' birth, for Herod killed all the young boys in Bethlehem two years and under in accordance with what the Wise men told him. Probably about 6 months after Jesus' birth, days after the Magi visited Herod, and the Magi didn't return to him, he ordered all male children under 2 to be murdered, in a vain attempt to kill the Messiah. This would have been about 4 BC, for Herod died in that year.

Who was the king of israel when jesus was born?

A:The simple answer would be that Herod the Great was king when Jesus was born, as the Gospels of Matthew and Luke both agree on this. However, the Gospel of Luke also says that Jesus was born during the census of Qurinius, governor of Syria. The problem here is that Herod died in 4 BCE, while Qurinius was appointed in 6 CE, ten year later, with instructions to conduct a census in Judea. This was the only census under Qurinius, and the first to be conducted by Rome in the Levant, but it also took place at a time when there was no longer a king in Judea. The explanation is, as John Shelby Spong (Born of a Woman: A Bishop Rethinks the Birth of Jesus) informs us, that the nativity stories do not contain any historical truth.

What star led Magi to Jesus?

In Matthew's Gospel, a star first led the magi westward to Jerusalem so that they could meet King Herod, then turned around and led them south-east to Bethlehem, and finally stood over the very house in which baby Jesus lay. No star can do this, nor does it make sense that the star would put Jesus' life in danger by leading the wise men to Herod, except to create dramatic suspense in the story.

Does the nativity appear in the Gospel of Matthew?

AnswerA version of the nativity appears in Matthew's Gospel in Chapter 1.An angel announces the divine conception of Jesus. Bethlehem appears to be the home town of Jesus' parents, Joseph and Mary. After Jesus was born, Magi came following a star from the east to see the new Messiah, whom they found in a house in Bethlehem. But Herod was afraid that Jesus would become king in his place. (Since Herod died as an old man in 4 BCE, this would have to have been many years earlier, before Herod knew that his time was almost up.) Jesus and his family fled immediately to Egypt, while Herod had all the infants killed, in order to remove a supposed rival. After Herod died, the family returned, but then decided to migrate to Nazareth in Galilee.

How did King Herod know about Jesus?

In the second chapter of Matthew (The Gospel of), it is explained the King Herod (who was appointed by Rome, and was not a King of authentic Israeli heritage) called for "the wise men" who had come to follow up on a prophecy (actually several, concerning the birth of the Messiah, who was later known to be Jesus). The wise men (or some representatives) discussed the prophecies in some unknown limited scope. Herod may have followed up with others concerning the details of these prophecies. The orders to kill the infants were apparently contrived to assure the death of the Messiah, which of course we know simply failed. Obviously Herod believed in prophecy only as much as many modern skeptics, thinking he could bend their final outcome. Herod is mentioned in the other of the 3 synoptics (3 of the 4 Gospel accounts are called this due to much overlapping information, or perhaps more because the fourth Gospel is so distinct in its style). Herod's name does not appear in the Gospel of John.

Where do three wise man that came to Bethlehem when Jesus was born came from?

Whether or not there were actually 3 wise men, or fewer or more, is a matter for academic debate. All we know is that the Wise Men, or Magi, were from the East. It says in Matthew 2:1-2, "After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him." So they were from the east.
