They stopped there for repairs to one of their boats, the Speedwell, was so leaky it would never cross the Atlantic. My understanding was that they had left from Southampton, but I have been told authoritively that it was Norwich, and had stopped at Southampton for earlier repairs to the Speedwell. At Plymouth it was believed that the Speedwell was being deliberately sabataged by the crew as they didn't want to go to America. Whatever the reason, it was left behind, and passengers transferred to the Mayflower.
