Two planes have dropped atomic bombs.

The first was the Enola Gay - a B-29 - which dropped the bomb on Hiroshima on 6th August 1945

The second was the Bockscar - also a B-29 - which dropped the bomb on Nagasaki on 9th August 1945.

Both planes returned to base without incident or harm

The pilot of the Enola Gay - Paul Tibbits - lived until November 1, 2007

The pilot of the Bockscar - Frederick C Bock - lived until August 25, 2000
