. Some people think that it is extinct and others don't (I think its still alive).

Sorry but this question unfortunately cannot be answered, because no one knows if its still alive or not. This question can be answered this way. Say it was extinct. Probably it died cause the climate changed or because it ran out of Why are megalodons estinct. There are many reasons. Another one is it probably died because other animals ate it or humans killed it. That is a stupid reason so ignore that. If it is still alive (I really hope it is), then its probably in the deeper and colder waters. A legend says that they live in the phillipean sea. In the is a tr phillipean sea there is a sea beneath it called the panthela sea. In the panthela sea there is a Trench that is called the Mariana Trench. I don't know if you've heard of this trench or sea before, but its only a legend. It could be true, (I hope it is cause the world needs to Why are megalodons estinct something). No offense. So the legend says that the megalodon lives in the Mariana Trench. It could be possible cause we humans only explored 5% of the water on earth. This is sad. I mean if we got more better technism then we could probably go down there and see. 95of % the water on earth has not been explored so the megalodons and not only them, but other prehistoric creatures long believed to be extinct could be living down there. Now I mean water born prehistoric creatures (creatures that live in the water). This could actually be true, but don't be so sure. It's only a legend. A very good and probably true legend. I'll tell you, these prehistoric creatures once lived and could still be alive (not all of them) roaming the seas we have not yet explored. Who knows. Cause what if we do explore them, in the future. These creatures could be right beneath us swimming around, searching and doing what they need to do to survive. This could be true and it could probably be a mistake, (but I think they are still alive if you ask me). I hope you learned from this info here. I did not make this up.

Megalodon have been found dating back to 25 million years ago, and as recent as only 2 million years ago. That extends from the late Paleogene period through the Neogene and into the early Quaternary. All three of those periods are part of the Cenozoic era.

It is generally accepted that the megalodon lived in the Miocene period, but its ancestors go as far back as the Cretaceous period.
