The viking ships were better then the ships of other people of the time and the vikings allready had colonies on Iceland and Greenland so its not so strange that some of them wanted to explore further to the west and perhpas create new colonies of their own.

There have been Viking settlements dated to ancient times in the northern US and Canada. One is a Norse village discovered near the Hudson River, excavated by archaeologists from Columbia University. Others, on islands, were settled seasonally, for fishing and fur hunting. One example is on Baffin Island, excavated under the leadership of Patricia Sutherland.

Yes the vikings came to Canada before the Europeans because the Europeans had to battle the vikings for their territory. Afterwards the Europeans settled.
