Cement was something medieval people did not write about much, if at all, so there is no written historic record of its use during that time. It seems, however, that it was used by skilled craftsmen who preserved knowledge of it from ancient times, as there are some medieval structures in which it was used.

They took what gravel they needed out of pits, where it is found naturally.
