Well, yes and no. Germany had split into two parts after World War ll. To make sure no crossed over, they built the Berlin Wall. The United Sates needed to get to the other side of the wall so they could trade with the innocent people in the other half of Berlin, so they flew over. The wall was eventually brought down in the 1980's by president Regan.
