I grew up in the 1950s and believe it or not people weren't into diets like they are today. They ate as well as the family could provide and were constantly active. No sitting behind a computer, no TV to hang out with, etc., and people knew their neighbors and kids were out having fun with their friends. Girls weren't Anorexic or Bulimic back then and the only time one was painfully thin is if they were very ill or fighting off a disease. There was no birth control pills or patches back in the 1950s (I believe this is part of the fast development of young females physically and some health issues) and dancing a lot was part of our exercise routine. No fancy gyms or spas ... just active. Even our parents didn't get heavily into diets and you didn't see as many over weight people back in the 1950s as you see today. This is due to families in the 1950s having a treat of going through a drive through restaurant or going to an indoor restaurant and fewer junk foods. Good old mom cooked good, plain wholesome food. The foods today have also been refined more and I again feel this is part and parcel to the ill health of many.
