It depends on the target platform. If you want to use MF COBOL on the mainframe then the answer is none, MF supports the mainframe as a target by using MF EEE. You write and unit test the code on the PC and then send the source off to the mainframe for compilation and final testing.

Via the Mainframe Express product, it enables development and testing of IBM mainframe COBOL on a workstation, but actual mainframe QA, test and production compilation requires the IBM mainframe COBOL compiler. It will generate MSIL so that Micro Focus COBOL programs will operate as managed code under .NET.
Micro Focus is an ANSI 85 compliant COBOL compiler with extensions for the 2002 standard revisions. It is highly (but not perfectly) compatible with IBM mainframe COBOL, and has options for varying degrees of compatibility with other current and obsolete COBOL dialects.
Micro Focus is the dominant player in this market and can enforce what is essentially monopoly pricing on its users, a relatively recent business strategy development. Competition to Micro Focus is provided by AcuCOBOL (now owned by Micro Focus), Fujitsu COBOL, Liant RM/COBOL (now owned by Micro Focus), Veryant isCOBOL, LegacyJ, and COBOL-IT. All are proprietary products except COBOL-IT which is open source with professional support available.
There are also many open source COBOL products, including OpenCOBOL, TinyCOBOL, KOBOL, and many others with varying degrees of community based support. None are professionally supported at this time.

Simply test it with a multi meter. Set to DC and see if it is holding voltage. Then,...Set the meter on Ohms to check the continuity between the leads. If it shows little or no resistance, or doesnt beep, normally youre ok. If it beeps or shows resistance, its fried. Afterwards, since the voltage should have been drained by the meter on Ohms setting, see if it builds back up.

The most important thing here is to know that unix and cobol is a good platform to work in that to with Oracle as the database. The mf cobol is almost a standard cobol that is followed these days, and many banks want to migrate to this version of cobol(as it is perfectly suited to Unix systems) the another version which is quite popular is IBM cobol this one is more popular with the mainframes community since Ibm is the leader here and it was good move to have there own cobol. so if you are assotiated with unix and not with mainframes then mf cobol is suited with u and most of the middle east and European banks are on unix . but if u want to switch to mainframes then go for IBM cobol. A bit of C language knowledge would certainly be a positive point in your resume.
