aerobic exercise is any sort of endurance training, like running long distances. They rely on the body receiving oxygen in order to give the muscles energy, so the blood flow increases. The lungs and heart are strengthened with aerobic.

anaerobic exercise is quick like sprinting a 100m or weight lifting.

Aerobic refers to cardiorespiratory fitness, and anaerobic refers to muscular fitness.

Aerobic exercise means activities such as walking, bicycling or swimming that temporarily increase your heart rate and respiration. Aerobic exercise (also known as cardiovascular exercise) builds your endurance. Anaerobic exercise typically means activities such as Weightlifting and push-ups and sit-ups, which builds muscle and physical strength through short bursts of strenuous activity.

Aerobic exercise activities are longer in duration and involve usually a rythmic motion to them. Also, aerobic activities involve the use of oxygen consumption. Anaerobic activities are short sudden burst movements such as sprinting a short distance where oxygen is not consumed and the individual holds their breath.

At a fundamental level aerobic fitness means with oxygen, anaerobic fitness means without oxygen.

Any low-to-moderate intensity exercise -- long-distance cardio, yoga, endurance weight-lifting -- where your heart rate is approximately 70-80% of the max would be considered aerobicfitness. In this zone your body uses oxygen to produce energy, which fuels your movement and activity and can be sustained over long periods of time. The primary source of energy for aerobics is fat.

When exercise intensity increases to 80-90% of your maximum heart rate, as is typical with heavy weight-lifting, power-lifting, calisthenics, sprinting, and interval cardio, your body is in an anaerobic state. Anaerobics don't require oxygen, but cannot be sustained for a long duration. The primary source of energy for anaerobics is glucose.

As a by-product of anaerobic activity the body produces lactic acid (the burning sensation in your muscles), which causes the body to quickly fatigue.

Aerobic activities (swimming, running, jogging, etc.) require you to increase the activity of your entire cardiovascular system (heart and lungs) to supply more oxygen to tissues. This increased oxygen supply is what generates energy through oxidative phosphorylation, producing ATP for immediate use.

Anaerobic activities (weightlifting, sit-ups, push-ups, etc.) rely more on your existing energy stores, and are energy-depleting. The first stores used are ATP and creatine phosphate, because they more readily yield chemical energy for cells. The second system to be tapped is your own glycogen stores, breaking down the polymer into free glucose through glycolysis. In the absence of sufficient oxygen (which is typically obtained through increased cardiovascular activity), glucose is broken down to lactic acid (which is what causes the "burn" after prolonged activity).

Between the two types, aerobic exercise is better for your health, as it strengthens your cardiovascular system and promotes better metabolic function (it also releases endorphins and increases serotonin for better well-being, and has numerous other advantages).
