Amino acids make up proteins. A protein is just a chain of amino acids. The type of protein it is depends on what kind of acid it is. All amino acids have the same formation except for one part of them which is called the relative group.

Amino Acid: compound with an amino acid (-NH2) on one end and a carboxyl group (-COOH) on the other end.

Protein: macromolecule that contains carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen; needed by the body for growth and repair and to make up enzymes.

An amino acid is one of the subunits that makes up a protein. A common analogy is that of a chain. If a protein is a chain then amino acids are the links. Proteins are synthesized as a long polymer of amino acids that then fold and coil into precise structures based on the particular properties of the amino acids that make up the protein.

Amino acids are the building blocks used for proteins. Basically, you attach a whole bunch of amino acids together using peptide bonds, and you get a protein!

Only when you have a polypeptide chain hydrogen bonged by its side chains and the R groups disulphide bonded, hydrogen bonded, and having hydrophobic and hydrophilic interactions that fold the structure into a globular three dimensional shape do you have a protein.

Proteins are made up of amino acids. It's the same as asking what is the difference between a brick and a house. A house is made of bricks the same way a protein is made of amino acids.
